Handle with care
The birds of the air
When they fall in your hands
And you cradle them there.
Their wings have known wind
And the clouds so soft
While golden rays of light
Caress feathers aloft.

The Ascending Bird Sanctuary In Urgent Need Of Help!
ASCENDING BIRD SANCTUARY, located in nearby Plum Branch, is about 4 years old, and is run by Lori Barba the only federally licensed songbird rehabilitator anywhere in the Southeast, especially the CSRA. She and her husband have acquired a very large ideal piece of land where Ascending Bird Sanctuary is transitioning to where she will be able to better facilitate the hundreds of birds that come for rehab yearly. At the sanctuary she rehabilitates orphaned and injured songbirds to release back to their wild habitat. Right now, Lori and her husband are in the process of breathing life back into an old agricultural building on the property. Once completed, this will house numerous aviaries, space for medical care/rehab, a room for educational programs which will include non-releasable educational birds, quarters for the interns (post-Covid) and more. Right now, Lori must be 24/7 with the birds, leaving her little time for the facility.
Lori's co-founder of the Sanctuary passed away not too long ago, leaving Lori in 24/7 complete care of the birds, some of which must be fed every 30 minutes from dawn to dusk. Since Lori is now the only person who can touch or care for these birds because their federally protected, that has left her precious little time to help her husband, who also works, to move forward on the building restoration. They need...well, everything: building supplies, framing, plumbing, electrical work, volunteers to clean cages and prepare food, labor to help with numerous tasks on the building and monetary donations are necessary and needful. Lori answers all calls, however she really has little time to chat except for serious inquires to contribute to the project and of course for birds in need that you may find for her to rescue, rehabilitate, and release. Ascending Bird Sanctuary is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and Lori does not receive a salary, Lori and her husband are very knowledgeable, hard working, and appreciative of any help you or your group can offer. Please consider assisting this poutine addition to our community.
